Yesterday was amazing and so will tonight.

Yesterday my brother’s girlfriend invited me along to go tubing on Lake Mead. I was hesitant for a few reasons:

1. I have never been tubing before.

2. I am a worrier. What if I fall off the tube funny and end up in the hospital?

3. I get sun burnt every time no matter how much SPF I lather myself up in.

4. I can get motion sick when I’m not in control of the vehicle or boat.

So I sound like a real boat load of fun, right? RIGHT? Yes, the pun was intended.

I went along and had a blast. I’m so grateful that I decided to stop being a stick in the mud. I did hop in the boat and tried tubing for a few “go arounds”. I ended up sucking in more water than I should have, but I loved it. I was still freaking out a little about making sure I fall off my tube “gracefully” so I don’t have permanent damage. I also got a little dizzy after getting back into the boat.

So I’m such a loser for having all these worries. No wonder I’m single. Haha!

Tonight I’m heading to a speak-easy type of bar in town. I have no idea what that involves, but I was told to get dressed up. So my hair is all curled, my favorite red dress is on and I’m all dolled up ready to go. Will update with pictures soon!

The Easiest Marble Art

photo 3 (5) photo 1 (4)

I was going to create a tutorial, but the project is so simple that it really doesn’t need much direction from someone else.

If you were to ever consider creating something like this I have a few tips:

1. Get a sturdy canvas already ready to hang. The marbles are heavy and will cause some canvas to start drooping.

2. Plan ahead. What design are you going to create? Sharp corners are difficult to fill in and shapes will lose the defined edges if not extremely careful.

3. Get a fast drying super glue. While at times I appreciated the fact I could still shift the marbles, there were other times where accidentally knocking them around was a mega challenge.

4. Start from the top and work your way down. This prevents your own hand from knocking the marbles loose as they are drying. Guess which way I did it? Bottom up. Terrible mistake.

5. Get more marbles than you think you need and get the kind that are kind of flat. I thought I would have some leftover…I didn’t.

If you are going to hang it, prepare to have something very heavy on your wall. My guess is that this piece I did weighs around 8 pounds.

This project helped me get something up on my condo’s walls. It also inspired some other projects that aren’t as colorful and aren’t quite so large.

So how about it? What are your thoughts on the project?

Today was extremely productive. I completed my marble art. I will take photos and add a tutorial tomorrow. It was painfully easy, but very time consuming. Nevermind the fact that marbles weigh a TON when you glue them like mad onto a canvas.

Plus I hung it up crooked. I’ll have to fix it in the morning.

2 hours of work and it’s done though! Not as clean as I would’ve liked but it’s one piece of art for my room.

  • Complete the cross stitch kit (About to begin)
  • Buy some new watercolor paper (No progress)
  • Do the marble art for the living room (Complete)
  • Complete a commissioned piece of art (No progress)
  • Save money for a sewing machine (10% done)
  • Find a use for the second canvas I have

How was your day guys?

Reorganized closet and Found place to hang basket

Today has been insane. I’m in cleaning mode and have torn through my closet. I had two recliner chairs that were stuffed in there. I managed to remove them and bring them down two flights of stairs and across a parking lot to a dumpster.

Look where I placed that fruit basket.

Clever lady, aren't I?

Clever lady, aren’t I?

The problem is that I’ve found so many things that I want to get rid of. It’s either that I don’t like them any more or they are too big for me now. So I’m thinking of starting to list some of my clothing on Ebay for really cheap so they can go to better homes.

  • List 3 items on Ebay
  • Organize my shoes
  • Get a storage container for closet

Hope you all had a great day!

Formal Fashion Croquis- Complete

Let me start this by saying that I have a strong dislike for peplum designs. However, since the trend doesn’t seem to be dying any time soon I chosen to mix it into my formal croquis design. I probably won’t create this into an actual garment unless someone pleads with me to create it. I’m not sure why, but I’m imagining that this dress would be stunning in a blush pink or navy.

Yes, I inverted the colors for a reason. I want the focus to be on the lines, not the art. I wanted focus on the silhouette and wanted everyone to be able to fill in whatever kind of fabric color they’d like.

  • Design 2 more formal croquis
  • Design 1 more croquis with a peplum inspiration

Write out loud

I used to be a terrific writer. I had a certain magic and image to my stories that couldn’t be duplicated. After a long line of life events I slowly stopped writing for the enjoyment of it. I released a life long dream to be a writer.

While writing had once been my biggest dream, like many people with some “Debbie Downers” around I let the dream go. There are so many people in the world who haven’t achieved their goals and are so consumed with negativity that they try to crush others. Their pessimism is smothering and sucks the oxygen and ambition right away from others.

This is an extremely personal story and I remember exactly when I had decided to let my dream go. When I was younger I had written this short story and was so proud of it. I am my own worst critic (or so I had thought), but when I had produced this beautiful story I eagerly rushed down the stairs to show it to my family. The lack of enthusiasm was crushing. I should have just sent the story out to try and get published before showing them. When I asked directly what they thought of it you know it’s not good when they respond…”Well, do you want me to be honest?”

So I dropped it. The story sat forgotten in my bedroom for years. Just prior to my move I found the story again. I reread it and was impressed…so impressed that I couldn’t remember if it was actually something I wrote. My name was clearly on top and the minor grammatical errors were indicators that this was indeed my work. The worst part is that I know that I can’t write like that any longer.

My family loves and supports  me, please don’t come away thinking that they are horrid people. The problem, however, is that I’ve never tried to send any of my writing out to get reviewed by professionals. Professionals who don’t have an emotional investment in my well being. Why is this story still hidden inside my closet like it’s some dirty movie?

I’ve decided (as painful as it is) to begin writing again. I know I write plenty on the blog, but I want to write something more magical. I want to be that person behind the words who can shift a reader’s mood with only a sentence. So I’m adding some new goals with the full intention of getting published. Not only will I be successful at getting published, I will publish THAT story which made me drop the dream.

  • Write a poem to share on the blog (not for publishing)
  • Write 2 poems for private to publish
  • Edit “Stranger” so that it’s ready to be sent out to publishers
  • Bubble chart some new ideas for a novel and choose one.
  • Bubble chart some new ideas for a short story and choose one.

Never let your dreams go. It’s difficult and sometimes we need to keep a toe down on reality, but sometimes it’s quite alright to allow yourself to just try.

The Electric Jolt

So I went in not too long ago for an interview for a Sales Associate position.

Today I got the call to let me know that I’m being hired as the Assistant Manager.

The pay isn’t fantastic, but it’s a great start and something that will help build up that resume! The other awesome part is that the manager is fully aware that I’m trying to get back to school and she explained on the phone that she is happy to work around it. The BONUS, the job is right next door to the college and 10 minutes away from where I live. So no commute, a workable manager and willing to help me juggle  school.

So I’m a happy little clam right now.

Adding some new goals and finally rejoicing that I don’t have to fill out any more pre-employment tests.

  • Finish training at work
  • Get first paycheck
  • Remember all co-worker’s names
  • Work for a full month with ZERO issues

Love ya guys!

While I know logically that artists and designers usually starve, my heart still belongs to being creative.

I created the colored fashion croquis after attending a fashion/art event. The original idea for it was to use watercolor paints, but it seems my watercolor brushes were left behind during the move. So instead of sulking I used colored pencils and then photoshop. The end result wasn’t exactly how I had originally imagined it, but I liked the monotone. While I look at it, I could change the colors, patterns, etc to make it sell-able.

In case you missed it, here was the end result.

It’s certainly better than nothing.

I do need to continue working hard at my art so I can improve. I have so much room for improvement. However, practice makes perfect.

  • Complete the cross stitch kit (No progress)
  • Buy some new watercolor paper (No progress)
  • Do the marble art for the living room (Idea created, now to purchase materials)
  • Complete a commissioned piece of art (No progress)
  • Save money for a sewing machine (10% done)
  • Complete a fashion Croquis (Done)
  • Attend art event for inspiration (Done)

Not a lot of progress

So I’ve been trying to challenge myself a little more with these goals. I have a few people I already know, but the whole point of these goals is to meet NEW people. I’ve been trying to avoid inviting the same people out over and over again. I consider that cheating and the only person I’d be letting down is myself.

So while this weekend was productive for the condo, it wasn’t very productive for my social life. However, I’ve signed up to go to a few events later this week. Margaritas and Trivia night…SO GOING TO BE THERE. This week will be difficult and I’ll be going out of my comfort zone, but please keep me in your thoughts in hopes that I can conquer these social events.

  • Go out 5 times to different places (1/5 done and 2 events planned this week)
  • Go bowling (No progress)
  • Host dinner here for a friend (No progress)
  • Invite friends to go out 5 times (1/5 done)
  • Go on 1 date (No progress)
  • Attend 1 fashion related event

Starting to Resemble Home

This weekend has been excellent for getting my condo put together.

I’ve been nurturing my new houseplant like a newborn child and enjoying my nicely organized kitchen.

Even my shopping trip proved fruitful. I strongly dislike grocery shopping, but this weekend’s trip was hysterical with my coupons. I do feel like an idiot for not having done it before. With just ONE trip I saved forty dollars. What can I do with forty dollars? Fill my gas tank…decorate…save it away. How about you? I strongly suggest taking the time and doing the coupon and grocery store research gig.

I do need some pictures on my wall guys! I’m thinking of doing an old Hollwood theme in my room. Then there is the idea of having a tropical resort theme (no inflatable palm trees…I promise). We’ll see how it goes. Once I find a painting, piece of art or furniture that screams to me then I can design around it.

Goal review:

  • Save 100 dollars with coupons (41/100 dollars saved)
  • Get a houseplant (Done)
  • Hang 3 pictures up in my room (No progress)
  • Get steering fixed (ASAP)
  • Get my car detailed (No progress)
  • Reorganize the pantry (Done)
  • Get a patio decoration
